The Journey Begins
Life in my Shoes has had another exciting few weeks with the Live Auditions and the hard task of trying to cast the winner drawing even closer. Last week, the shortlist of 30 young people from all over the UK, were invited to come down to Body & Soul’s HQ in London to audition in front of a panel of industry experts. Little did they know that not only would they be auditioning in front of the panel, but actually get the opportunity to meet and audition with well known and experienced actors; Emily Head, Blake Harrison or Nathan Stewart-Jarrett from Channel 4’s ‘Inbetweeners’ and ‘The Misfits’. Our male shortlist got to read with Emily, while the girls did the same with either Blake or Nathan. Although this would be a daunting prospect to a lot of people, everyone did a fantastic job and the stars were totally blown away by people’s passion for acting and support for ‘Life in my Shoes’ campaign message.
Judging the shortlist were a panel of industry experts including: Finola Dwyer, the Producer of the Oscar nominated ‘An Education’, Gary Davy, Casting Director whose credits include Band of Brothers; John Whiston, Creative Director of ITV Studios; Scott O’Donnell, a freelance Producer in Short Films, Commercials and music videos; Tudor Payne, creative director of Life in my Shoes campaign and writer and director of Life in my Shoes – the film and Emma Coyler, founder and director of Body and Soul.
Star of Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies, Dr Christian Jessen, was also on hand to interview the lucky 30 to find out more about them, their thoughts on the campaign, HIV and how their audition went.
Body & Soul’s, Laura Woodhead said: “It’s fantastic to see so many talented people excited and engaged for this campaign. These young people have the power to shape opinion and start a dialogue about HIV like no one else. I hope that they had as much fun doing it as we had watching it’.
Like we’ve said before, each and every one of YOU guys are the voice behind Life in my Shoes and we are excited to see where you will take us.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the casting day and made it such a success…Jonathon from Jacaranda films, Lottie from Red Door PR, Charlotte, Jim, Precious, Rob, Tudor, Scott, Emma, Sharon, Jed, Mitch, Jamie, Laura, Jaya….. the list goes on!
The next step…Having struggled to select the shortlisted 30 from the hundreds of auditions we received it has been even more of a challenge to try and cast just one person. The panel have therefore invited a handful of the shortlist to attend a call back session, next weekend, the 14th May. The purpose of this call back & workshop session is to give the panel a better chance to see key individuals as well as allow them to see various acting abilities and role scenarios through a series of acting workshops. It will be another great opportunity to gain more audition and workshop experience with industry experts. And will take us one step closer to casting the star!
We’ll keep you posted with all the news about this next stage as well as the other fantastic *PRIZES* still to be won!
